The German American Mardi Gras Association represents the German American Karneval Clubs in the USA and Canada. Karneval/Mardi Gras has a long tradition in Germany and is celebrated by millions of people there. Our goal is to give people in North America that same kind of feeling, the fun and the freedom of German Karneval, give them a place to celebrate the “fifth season” in America and keep a bit of German culture alive. All are welcome, no need to be German! GAMGA celebrates one time per year an America wide event – the GAMGA Gala in Las Vegas-  with visitors from all over the world.

Working on a new page for the GAMGA Website and I need your help. I have named some of the popular Karneval songs here on FB, but I would like to hear what yours are that have NOT been stated (there are soooooo many!).

Post the name or video but please share in the comments below. Thanks!!

It's Monday! Lets start it with a fun Karneval song (#5 in our series).

'Am Bickendorfer Büdche' by Bläck Fööss

The band's name in Kölsch, (the local dialect of Cologne ) in which the group predominantly sings, means barefoot. In their early days the group would perform barefoot, which was later given up mainly after several injuries from remains of broken glass on stages.

This song is fun and makes you want to dance (dancing is a big part of Karneval). Check out the video of them performing the song at a Karneval party in Cologne earlier this year.
