What is the GAMGA Gala?

See next Section for Hotel Reservation & Ticket information

The GAMGA Gala is the main (or better – only) event of the German American   Mardi Gras Association – the assembly of (German) American Karneval Groups in North America. We celebrate it in the tradition of Karneval/ Fasching/ Fastnacht/ Mardi Gras, keeping traditions alive and passing them on to future generations. It gives especially young performers an outstanding opportunity to perform in front of the biggest audience – in Las Vegas.

The Gala traditionally takes place during the beginning of January in Las Vegas and is attended by about 1000 people. The event is open to anyone interested in German American Karneval, although GAMGA member clubs receive a small discount on entry prices.

The event takes place at a hotel in Las Vegas in a ball room. The hotel traditionally accommodates the majority of attendees which gives a great opportunity not only to attend the event, but also to mingle with like minded people from all over the country (and world) and enjoy Las Vegas.

The GAMGA board of Directors (all volunteers), with the help of many other volunteers, organize and run the event. The Gala takes place on 2 days – Friday and Saturday.

Both German and American food and beer is served at the event (but it is not a sit down dinner!). The event is a mixture of performances and (ball room) dancing to music provided by a live band and a DJ.

Friday event
The Friday event is the traditional “goofing off” day. Although there is a formal part in the program (e.g. when the GAMGA Prinzenpaar for the year is crowned), the audience is dressing up in “Karneval attire” (some which will get a prize later at night!). The performances during the night are “skits”, where (all amateur) performers show off their humorous side or in show dances. The official program starts usually just before 7pm.

Saturday event
The Saturday event is the more formal event. The audience is dressing more formal (dinner dress) and the attending Karneval groups dress in their official uniforms, wearing their medals. Many Karneval Groups bring their Prinzenpaar to GAMGA and they will show in their beautiful costumes.

The event starts usually before 7pm with a March in of the GAMGA Karneval Groups and their Prinzenpaar. After 8pm the Groups present their Garde Dances in the traditional Garde uniforms.

About GAMGA

The German American Mardi Gras Association represents the German American Karneval Clubs in the USA and Canada.

Karneval/Mardi Gras has a long tradition in Germany and is celebrated by millions of people there. Our goal is to give people in North America that same kind of feeling, the fun and the freedom of German Karneval, give them a place to celebrate the “fifth season” in America and keep a bit of German culture alive. All are welcome, no need to be German!

GAMGA celebrates one time per year an America wide event – the GAMGA Gala in Las Vegas-  with visitors from all over the world.
